‘Ghostbusters’ reboot debuts its second international trailer amid ongoing public backlash over its all-female cast including Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second international trailer for Paul Feig’s upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot recently premiered showing the new all-female cast of characters. The 3D film stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as a group of fighters who struggle to defeat supernatural threats.

The new trailer also featured Chris Hemsworth as the Ghostbusters’ receptionist as well as appearances from the franchise’s iconic ghosts Slimer and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Although the new trailer didn’t overtly address the backlash surrounding the all-female reboot, it proved that the new team was also capable of pulling off what was known to be men’s business.

Feig’s new film provoked the ire of some of the original franchise’s fans with some openly rejecting and boycotting the film altogether. This prompted the filmmaker to admit, “Geek culture is home to some of the biggest a**holes I’ve ever met in my life.” The ‘Ghostbusters’ first trailer posted on YouTube currently has the most number of dislikes, with more than 800,000 people clicking the thumbs down button since its release in early March.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that the upcoming reboot’s budget was set at more than $150 million - $154 million, to be exact. It is under production companies Village Roadshow Pictures, LStar Capital, The Montecito Picture Company and Pascal Pictures. It was originally greenlit by the Sony Motion Picture Group for an estimated $169 million budget.

It would be interesting to see how an initially negatively received big-budget Hollywood film would emerge as a possible box office winner upon its release. In comparison, the original film had a production budget of $30 million. It operated under production companies Black Rhino and Delphi Productions and was distributed by Columbia Pictures.

According to The Numbers, it earned $13.6 million during its weekend premiere on June 1984 and went on to gain $295.2 million in total Worldwide Box Office earnings, with $242.2 million coming from domestic markets and $53 million from international markets.

‘Ghostbusters’ is an upcoming supernatural comedy co-written and directed by Paul Feig. It is a reboot of the original film in the franchise, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. It is scheduled to be released on July 15, 2016 in the United States.
